Festivals

I have participated in poetry festivals in Wroclaw, Malmo, St Petersburg, Moscow, Belgrade,Toronto, Washington and New York, and in numerous festivals in the UK and Ireland, including the Cheltenham Festival, England, and the Cuirt,Galway.

Prizes

The Alice Hunt Bartlett Award (with Tom McCarthy, 1981)
The Prudence Farmer Prize (1982)
The Cholmondeley Award (1984)
Star Whisper was a Poetry Book Society Choice in 1983.
Holding Pattern was shortlisted for the Belfast City Arts Award in 1998.
Poems have been twice shortlisted for the Forward Best Poem of the Year
‘Against Posterity’ won First Prize in National Poetry Competition, BT section, 2001
‘Baby, Baby, Baby’ won First Prize in Peterloo Poetry Competition, 2003

Membership of Professional Organisations

I am a member of the Welsh Academi and the Society of Authors, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, a Fellow of the English Association and a board member of the Philip Larkin Society.
